The American Volunteer Group, better known as the Flying Tigers, in their iconic P-40s over China. The first time I went to Oshkosh I got a book titled Tales of a Tiger by R. T. Smith. Most of it was a reprinting of his diary pages from his time flying with the Tigers. It was cool to see it written in his own hand. He was kind enough to autograph it as well.

Looking at the pilot in the cockpit, you get a sense of how big the P-40 was. A lotta kills under that windscreen, too.

It's good sized, but not much larger than the Mustang. A bit chunkier I suppose.

Just a whole lot of engine up front.

They may have ultimately been outclassed by other fighters in the war, but I'll be damned if the P40 isn't among the greatest looking aircraft ever designed.

Love the livery. This picture is awesome. Now I’m going to have to by all those model planes I’ve been waiting on and watch Memphis blues again, again.
